I’m With You

I was commissioned by Canada Bay Council to temporarily transform two public seats for Valentine’s Day. Council wanted the artwork to be a bright and welcoming sight, using colour, movement and fabric. A strong street presence and fun social media opportunities were high on the agenda.

I created two captivating artworks inspired by the aesthetics of Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge. Different designs—a heart and arch—in vibrant colours of reds, maroons, and pinks were mounted behind the backrest of the public seating at Fred Kelly Place, Five Dock and Union Square, Rhodes in Sydney.

The bright ribbons moved in the wind transforming the seats to vibrant, engaging and celebratory stage, creating an occasion for connection, instagram moments, and a talking point to those who use the public space. All materials were reclaimed, recycled, second hand or studio collateral.

Fun Fact: While undertaking this project, I won a romantic, all expenses paid, honeymoon trip to Fiji with my fiance! So, while making this work in the studio, my heart was filled with joy, generosity and love. Dedicated to my own love, Maciej, I titled this work “I’m With You”. I’m With You is an offering of love to all, a wish to share the beauty and joy of connection to the wider public. x
