Corrimal Book Box
I was commissioned by Wollongong City Council to create an engaging and original public artwork that would be used to decorate the new Street Library in Corrimal. The brief stipulated I may use any medium that is easily photographed and translated into a digital image.
Using native flora found on site, I created a design which celebrates the book box’s natural surroundings. Elevating objects such as the commonplace dandelion seed pod and fallen banksia leaves, I hoped to foster a sense of wonder and curiosity of the local area. Akin to the powerful role of Still Life in painting, I wanted to highlight the charm of everyday finds and encourage a deeper contemplation of life's hidden beauty. The exterior design showcasing nature's treasures mirrors the possible treasures contained within the book box.
The Street Library was digitally wrapped and installed at Luke’s Place Playground in Corrimal Memorial Park.
